Upgrading to iOS7? Make a few settings changes for your Square Reader app!

Upgrading to iOS7? Make a few settings changes for your Square Reader app!

When you update your Apple device to iOS 7, you may need to adjust your microphone in order to swipe payment cards with your card reader.

If you have already updated to iOS 7
, please allow Square Register to access the microphone. Here’s how:

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone
  2. Turn on the Square Register slider
  3. Relaunch Square Register and swipe away!

If you have not yet updated to iOS 7, your app will function normally. When you do update, follow the prompt to allow microphone access the first time you open Square Register.

Visit the Square Help Center for help with iOS 7 troubleshooting.

We are big fans of the Square application – HUGE fans. Square has been such a game changer for Lizardwebs and countless other companies out there. Prior to Square, there were onerous companies that wanted to charge a large (for a small company) monthly fee just for the privilege of using their credit card processing service – regardless of if you even used it… Long credit applications, annoying, “Are you a traditional business” type restrictions – which knocked a lot of small companies like Lizardwebs out of the running in some cases. Square has truly been a lifesaver for us and made life a lot easier for both us AND our customers.

You can see more about the Square reader here in this post on our Lizardwebs blog – http://blogs.lizardwebs.net/2010/12/small-business-take-credit-cards-without-a-lot-of-hassle/

That all said, when you go to update your iOS 7 (as the iPhone WILL nag you about), this little nugget directly from the fine folks at Squareup.com may save your bacon (and sale 🙂 )
